A Trip
to
Xiao Liuqiu
In this summer vacation, my friends and I went to a beautiful outlying island called Xiao Liuqiu. It is a popular tourist attraction where people can do lots of water activities and enjoy the magnificent scenery.
Water activities are very common here. Tourists who come here will definitely experience the activity of snorkeling, so do we. We reserved a schedule to go snorkeling in the Vase Rock waters, where sea turtles usually appear. The weather of the snorkeling day was very bad. Because of the typhoon, the rain washed large amounts of the soil into the sea. It caused low-visibility underwater and terrible water quality. So, there were not many fish near the coast. The snorkeling coach said that this circumstance was rare in this area.
Although the weather was terrible, I still enjoyed the process. I liked the feeling that we used the lifebelt and wandered in the water. It was a new experience of floating with the waves. And, we were lucky to see sea turtles which were several times larger than an adult. But it also looked docile and cute. I felt so wonderful to swim with sea turtles and fish.
Another water activities was that we had a guided tour to the intertidal zone. The intertidal zone was divided into two time periods. And we joined in the dusk period. Due to the weather, the water wasn’t clear. It was not what I expected. I was hard to see every creature clearly around my feet. But, our guide was so experienced that he was barely affected. He showed us many strange creatures such as starfish, coral, sea urchin, and many others. In short, it was still a great experience.
Next, I want to talk about the impressive food we ate there. One is the twisted roll also known as hemp flowers. I dare say that residents in Xiao Liuqiu are the best twisted roll makers in the world. I love that texture and flavor more than any other I ate before. The most astonishing taste is plum. It makes the plum balance of the sweet and salty well. I finally bought 6 packs of it back home. The other delicious food is cheese burrito. It looks and tastes like the beef roll of Costco. And I like it a lot.
Although the weather and food were not satisfactory, I still had a fun trip with my friends. As the saying goes, it’s not important where we go, it’s whom I go with. There is an interesting story in this journey. Two of my friends originally thought they didn’t need to wear helmets there, but later they were stopped by the police and fined 500 NT dollars. My friends always bring joy to me.
