A Volunteer experience of Jurassic Festival
On November 30, I received a message from the volunteer coordinator of Jurassic Festival. She asked me whether I have the willingness to join the volunteer team. And I said yes! This activity would gather many Taiwan’s independent bands. The features about these kinds of music festivals are that people can buy a ticket and spend the whole day listening to their favorite bands or singers.
The Jurassic Festival started on December 2 to 3. On the first day, I woke up at 7am. and ended at 10pm. My job was to answer all the questions from audiences at the service station. Most common questions are about locations in the area of the Jurassic Festival, such as where the toilet is. In two days, my partners and I just consistently guided the way.
Actually, most of the time was free to use. I was allowed to decide what time I wanted to take a break, the lunch and dinner time. Because this activity integrated markets and music performance, there were some vendors to sell their hand-made accessories, cute stuff, clothes, and foods. Sometimes, I would take a look around and try to find some interesting commodities. I bought an old-school wallet with a strange creature on the surface.
Later, I bought a cute notebook with a painting bird from foreigners, who are from the US. I was curious about their motivation for joining this music festival with the identity of the vendor, so I came to and wanted to chat with them. They said they like to enjoy the music festival’s atmosphere. And I found out that they have lived in Tainan for 8 years. Their mandarin is very great, they can communicate with others as usual. They are generous in sharing their experiences, and very friendly treat their customers as their friends.
As I mentioned above, I was allowed to decide what time I wanted to take a break. Every volunteer would use the break time to listen to their favorite bands and singers, so were I. I was over the moon, because I watched almost all of the bands' performances I wanted to watch. One of the bands was “Dinosaurs’ skin”, which is a band that features cheerful, lively, and fantasy music. I have watched their live performance many times. Every time I watch their performance, I am infected by their emotions they want to convey.
Another impressive band is “Vulgar Savior”. This was the first time I watched their live performance. Some songs they sang were very contagious. Not only the rhythms but also the lyrics in many songs make me touched. My favorite song of this band is "Late to home but not alone.” The song describes someone’s family will always keep the light up, trying to illuminate one’s road to home. Every time I listen to this song, I will feel homesick. Every picture of home will appear in front of my eyes.
This experience is memorable. Through this activity, I had chances to watch my favorite band’s performance. I also made a group of friends who also like listening to music and want to become volunteers and make efforts for Taiwan’s independent music industry.
